The trip will be well worth it
Rioja Alavesa is the southernmost region of the seven districts into which the province of Alava is divided, in Euskadi. Its official name is "Cuadrilla de Laguardia-Rioja Alavesa" and Laguardia is its regional capital. It has just over 300 km2 which are bordered to the south by the river Ebro and to the north by the Cantabria Mountain range.
By road
Rioja Alavesa Wine Route has excellent communications, such as the AP-68 and AP-12 dual-carriageways and an extensive network of local roads. Short distances and ease of access between its 23 urban centres, belonging to 15 municipalities and 4 Administrative Councils, make the region an ideal place to tour and enjoy its towns, landscapes and people.
The AP-68 motorway is one of the most important national highways, since it joins the N-I, at Miranda de Ebro, with Zaragoza. Logroño can be reached from Pamplona via the AP-12 motorway and from there the different towns of Rioja Alavesa. From Madrid the distance is 356 km, taking about 3 and a half hours. From Pamplona it is 101 km and it takes an hour and a quarter. And from Zaragoza it is 194 km and it takes about two hours to arrive.
