Highlights:

Salinillas is protected by the Toloño Mountain Range and played a major role in the defence of Castile. The village was also renowned for its saltpans, after which the village was named. These remained in operation until the beginning of the 19th -century.
Almost the entire village wall remains standing and it still preserves its gates, which are the only way one can access the village.
On your walk through the village you will see the pilgrims hospital of Santa Ana, dating from the 15th century, and in the village square you will be surprised by the tower of the Sarmientos y Ayalas, dating from the 14th century, around which the Renaissance palace of the Conde de Oñate was built. Both buildings are in ruins today but they evoke a splendid past.
This village is a stopping place for pilgrims on their way to Santiago after crossing the province of Alava from the "tunnel" of San Adrián from north to south.
